Peterborough-Kawartha – Maryam Monsef, Member of Parliament for Peterborough—Kawartha, is excited to confirm that dozens of local women who were nominated by their peers in the riding will be celebrated during the Inaugural Peterborough-Kawartha Women’s Leadership Awards Gala on October 27, 2018.
“There are so many women in Peterborough-Kawartha who serve as leaders in our community in a variety of different ways,” Monsef said. “Whether it be through volunteering, public service, professional achievements, advocacy, or being a remarkable friend or family member, it is an honour to be able to celebrate these exceptional women.”
Monsef made the original announcement of the Awards during the Rural Women’s Summit held in Buckhorn this March. A call for nominations resulted in submissions from colleagues, friends, family members and neighbours from all throughout Peterborough-Kawartha.
“It came as no surprise that so many men, women and youth brought forward a long list of outstanding women deserving of recognition,” Monsef said. “The nominators are just as inspiring as the women they nominated; men and women from across Peterborough-Kawartha sharing stories of great women in our community. I look forward to spending a special, fun-filled evening with everyone in attendance.”
Nominees and the general public are encouraged to bring a youth – friend, neighbour or family member –so they can engage with these role models in our community.
Live music by Missy Knott, as well as the Red Path Singers, will be featured.
The list of nominees will be kept confidential until the night of the event. In the weeks leading up to the Awards, videos of nominators will be posted on Monsef’s social media accounts along with the hashtag #PKWomenLeading to tease the identity of some Award recipients. The videos will also be shared on the Peterborough-Kawartha Women’s Leadership Awards Gala event page on Facebook.
The Awards are being held during Women’s History Month in Canada, when all throughout October we celebrate the achievements and contributions of women and girls across the country and throughout our history.
Members of the media and public are encouraged to attend. Admission is free and no ticket required.
